Insights From Mathew : Overcoming Temptation Part 2

In Matthew 4 we read a vivid account of Satan tempting Jesus. Matthew records Christ victory over Satan and temptation and provides for us this great historical account. We are to rest in Christ victory over Satan and sin, if you are in Christ, His victory is our victory.

The apostle John tells us,

Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. – 1 John 3:8-9

Insights From Mathew: Overcoming Temptation Part 1

In Mathew 4 we read of Jesus victory over temptation. Satan approaches Jesus at the end of a 40 day fast, in solitude, in the wilderness. Satan thinks he sees an opportunity. Satan is coming to Christ in what appears to him as a moment of weakness. If you’ve ever read the account, then you know Christ overcame, Christ was the victor. If you are a believer Christ victory is your victory. Christ has overcome the evil one, Jesus is our way of escape when we face temptation. John tells us “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8c). We need to cling to Christ at all times because we never know when Satan will tempt us.
